Elizabeth Alvarez wakes up every weekday morning to help deliver the news of the day and a healthy dose of entertainment to many New Mexicans who are starting out their day.  She co-anchors KRQE News 13 from 4:30am-7am and then co-hosts 2 KASA This Morning from 7am-9am.

Elizabeth came to New Mexico after working several years at the FOX affiliate, O&O in Orlando, Florida as a reporter and anchor. She has had the privilege of covering some of the biggest stories that have garnered national attention including the infamous Casey and Caylee Anthony case, space shuttle flights, tropical storms, tornadoes and brush fires.  Prior to that, Elizabeth worked as an anchor and reporter in El Paso, Texas where she spent many months reporting from Fort Bliss on the U.S. Army’s 507th Maintenance Company that was ambushed in Nasiriyah, Iraq during the 2003 invasion. Elizabeth started her career in the news business as a news assistant at KCBS in Los Angeles, CA in the late 90s.

Her first on-air job was as a reporter/photographer in Roswell, New Mexico.  She remembers her first assignments clearly.  It was the pipeline explosion that killed 10 campers in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Elizabeth is a California native.  She graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish.

Through the years, Elizabeth has been honored with several Society of Professional Journalists Awards and Associated Press Awards in Florida and New Mexico.  She also contributed to a station Edward R. Murrow Award for Outstanding Breaking News Coverage in El Paso, TX.  In 2010, Elizabeth was honored by Latino Leadership Inc. as Outstanding Woman in Media which is the recognition that she is the most proud of.
