Game & Fish Department investigates White Sands pupfish status

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Department of Game and Fish has started an investigation into the White Sands pupfish to determine its threatened status.

In 1975 it was listed as a threatened species by the New Mexico State Game Commission. According to the department, the pupfish are considered at risk because of their extremely limited distribution.

The White Sands pupfish is regularly found in the Tularosa River Basin in southern New Mexico.
