Alamogordo veterans now have more medical care options

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – Veterans in southern New Mexico will have an easier time getting medical care thanks to a recent decision by the federal government.

Vets in Alamogordo will now have the option to get specialized treatment at the VA Medical Center in El Paso.

Until now, vets in the area were referred to Albuquerque, more than three hours away. The change cuts that travel time in half.

Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich, along with Congressman Steve Peace, fought for the change.
