DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – Bears digging through the trash in Durango could soon come to an end.
Bears digging in the trash have been a big problem all summer. According to the Durango Herald, the Durango City Council heard a proposal for a two-year plan to distribute bear-proof cans across the city.
They would spend $165,000 on cans in 2018 and $137,000 in 2019. Customers would then help pay for the cans over time.
The city also changed an ordinance getting rid of the warning when a bear digs in someone’s trash. It’s a $100 fine on the first offense now.
