Improvements planned for route used to carry nuclear waste to WIPP

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The route used to carry nuclear waste through New Mexico will get nearly $27 million in improvements.

The governor announced the project between Carlsbad and Vaughn, saying it will be paid for as part of the state’s massive settlement with the feds after the radiation leak at WIPP.

The governor says more than 180 lane miles of highway resurfacing projects will take place on U.S. 285, New Mexico 176, U.S. 60 and New Mexico 18.
