Carlsbad Caverns temporarily closes all elevator access

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – If you’re headed to the Carlsbad Caverns this week, wear your comfy shoes.

The park says its secondary elevators will be out of service from Tuesday through Thursday while crews fix a cable.

The park will be open, but the only access to the caverns will be an over one mile hike down a steep decent.

The primary elevators, which have been out of service since 2015, are expected to reopen next year.
