PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – It won’t cost you to have a bike in one New Mexico town anymore.
In 1975, a code was passed in Portales requiring a 50-cent annual licensing fee for each bike. If someone sold the bike, they had to notify the Police Department and pay a transfer fee of 25 cents.
Up until Tuesday the rule still stood, but wasn’t really enforced.
The city council has now approved an ordinance to delete the code calling it outdated.
