Durango woman involved in crash that killed her daughter faces jail time

DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – A Durango woman who caused a head-on crash that killed her 8-year-old daughter has pleaded guilty.

Troopers say 33-year-old Nyesha Candelaria was speeding on Highway 140 when she hit a patch of ice and lost control of her van last April. She crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on.

Troopers say at least three of her children were ejected from the van, including her 8-year-old daughter Mia who later died.

Candelaria pleaded guilty to two careless driving charges and faces up to two years in jail.
