Sandia Labs employees honored for fighting Ebola

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sandia National Laboratories has been recognized by the Department of Energy for fighting against Ebola.

Dmitri Kusnezov, the chief scientist and senior adviser to the Secretary of Energy, visited Sandia Labs April 11 to honor 60 “Sandians” for their work to mitigate the effects of the Ebola epidemic.

Technology Convergence Working Group was also recognized.

The working group, established by the DOE in 2015, provides a technical insight and assess the nation’s emerging biological technologies.

Sandia’s solution was to minimize the amount of time that people spent waiting in open Ebola treatment units, that way people with less serious illnesses were not infected by an Ebola victim.

They also continue to do basic scientific research to understand how Ebola was transmitted in West African clinics. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
