Pope considers allowing women as deacons

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Pope Francis says the Vatican should study the possibility of ordaining women as deacons. It’s a step that could change the Catholic Church’s all-male clergy policy. According to the National Catholic Reporter, the Pope agreed the matter should be given more careful consideration. Reps from the Vatican could not say exactly how the church would study the new role. A deacon can preach at mass, preside at weddings and funerals and perform baptisms.
