State Police investigate fatal aircraft crash near Las Cruces airport

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are currently investigating a fatal aircraft crash that happened near the Las Cruces airport Thursday.

Police say the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived they found two men dead on the scene.

They have now been identified as 77-year-old Morris Douglas Newton of Las Cruces and 67-year-old David Glenn Hancock of El Paso.

Officers had to use ATV’s to get to the crash site and say when they arrived the plane was engulfed in flames.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transporation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to arrive sometime Friday morning. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
