PLACITAS, N.M. (KRQE) – Crews have rescued two hikers who got lost near Placitas.
The Regional Technical Rescue Team was activated due to the bad weather conditions. Sandoval County Fire crews appear to be leading the search.
Michael Scales with SCFD says the rescue team was searching for a 25-year-old woman and 28-year-old man who fell ill from heat-related injuries.
“Roughly, it’s the tunnel springs trailhead. It’s about 5 miles in length, it’s rough terrain. They’re believed to be about 2 miles in the trailhead,” Scales said.
Ambulances waited at the bottom of the trailhead to transport the two to local hospitals.
Sandoval County Fire Department said the two are doing “okay.”
