Albuquerque police catch suspect accused of ramming two patrol cars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police say a suspected car thief is in custody after a chase that led to a crash in northeast Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque Police Department says officers spotted a stolen SUV near Menaul and San Mateo and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver rammed into an occupied police cruiser and took off.

APD says Air Support continued to follow the driver, who was driving recklessly, endangering other vehicles, construction workers and pedestrians.

Police say the SUV was stopped using a PIT maneuver near Eubank and Indian School, where the suspect rammed another police cruiser and attempted to flee on foot.

Officers say they ran after the suspect, who is now in custody.

No injuries were reported.

APD says the suspect is believed to be 16-year-old Antonio Munoz.

Police say he was taken in on five felony warrants, not including the charges he racked up Tuesday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
