BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – An Amber Alert is over and the 5-year-old girl taken by her mother is now safe.
The 5-year-old is now safe and healthy.
Belen police say they got a call Thursday afternoon that the girl was inside a mobile home in Belen.
Police say Wednesday night, Alicia Trejo went to the grandma’s home where Marissa was staying.
The report says Trejo was drunk when she showed up to the home and asked to borrow a car, then beat up the grandma, Mary Trujillo, when she refused.
Police say Trejo then took off walking with the 5-year-old. They issued an Amber Alert because of the mother’s dangerous past.
“She does have a criminal history that include things like battery on a peace officer, so we were concerned about the danger of the child,” Chief Scott Conner said.
But less than 24 hours after she was taken, police received a call from someone who knows Trejo, saying to go to the mobile home just around the corner from where Marissa was taken.
The girl was taken by police.
Alicia Trejo is facing one count of child abuse and one count of aggravated battery.
