ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday night, city council voted to honor a woman who did a lot for Albuquerque kids.

The pool at Sandia High School will now be named after Betsy Patterson.

Patterson coached the Sandia swim team and a local club team for a combined 24 years before losing her battle with breast cancer in 2014.

Albuquerque Public Schools needed city council approval to rename the pool because it’s owned by the city. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
