Impact of the KRQE Cares Program

KRQE Cares is about the kids in our community by setting out to make a difference in the lives of children in New Mexico.

Here are some of the results of the program’s impact:

  • Donations from phone banks for Shoes for Kids raises approximately $20,000 per year.
  • New shoes donated for Shoes for Kids campaigns per year is approximately 800 pairs.
  • Corporate, non-profit, and in-kind donations given to the Shoes for Kids campaigns totals approximately $60,000 per year.
  • Shoes for Kids project uses approximately 150 volunteers per year from Assistance League of Albuquerque and Payless Shoesource as well as 20 – 30 KRQE staff and anchors to size the kids, box the shoes, and distribute the shoes to the students.
  • Current corporate sponsors of KRQE Cares, UnitedHealthcare of NM, Assistance League of Albuquerque, and Payless shoesource.
  • Items given to every student at a Shoes for Kids distribution include
    • new pair of athletic shoes,
    • new pair of socks,
    • new book,
    • toothbrush and toothpaste,
    • a light snack,
    • a picture with the FLASH Superhero,
    • and a drawstring bag or backpack.
  • Over 3,000 pounds of food was collected for the APS Title 1 Homeless Project for Food for Kids which will provide 4,000 students food for several months.
  • $1,300 was collected in our first annual Books for Kids Drive in Nov 2016.
