ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department says officers responded to a neighborhood in northeast Albuquerque after people heard gunshots in the area.

Those shots are what led to an officer-involved shooting.

Police say they were called out to Chico NE and Central Avenue because of a suspicious person. Police say when they arrived they heard gunshots.

Officials say when officers went towards the gunshots, they found a person who posed a threat to police. Police then fired shots, according to APD.

Police did not say what that threat was, but they did say they found a victim and arrested one suspect.

“They located a victim that had suffered a gunshot wound. That person was not hit by police fire. That person was part of an argument that happened earlier tonight,” said Officer Fred Duran.

The person who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was not shot by police, officials say.

Three officers did fire their weapons and are waiting to be interviewed.
