District Attorney clears officers of wrongdoing in shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Santa Fe District Attorney has also ruled the shooting of a wanted suspect in 2015 justified.

Marvin Maestas, who was wanted for a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas led state police officers on a chase along I-25 all the way to Santa Fe, shooting at officers along the way. Several officers opened fire when they say Maestas refused to drop his gun and turned the gun towards them.

While Maestas was shot in the back, the District Attorney’s office ruled the officers made a split-second decision to save their lives and their actions were justified.
