Attorney wants advisory group to review Jayden Chavez-Silver murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An attorney wants the citizen advisory group that oversees the Albuquerque Police Department to look into how they handled the murder of Jaydon Chavez-Silver.

The Manzano High School student was killed in a drive-by shooting in June 2015.

After the initial investigation, Christopher Cruz and Donovan Maez were both arrested for the murder and jailed for ten months.

Then earlier this year, the District Attorney’s Office dropped the charges for a lack of evidence.

In the meantime, Esias Madrid, the man who is believed to be the real killer, was still on the streets and connected to at least one other murder in the metro.

Attorney John Day says APD didn’t do a thorough job and even coerced or threatened witnesses to change their stories. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
