Chris’ Friday Afternoon Forecast

Rain, mountain snow, wind and colder temperatures are moving across New Mexico today and tonight.  A strong storm system is moving through the region right now and this weather maker will crank up the wind all across New Mexico with the strongest wind being felt in eastern New Mexico.   That is where wind gusts could be 60-70 mph!  Albuquerque and Santa Fe will have gusts from 40-50 mph.  The strongest winds will be felt this afternoon into the early evening.   It will still be windy on Saturday, but not nearly as strong as today.

Mountain snow will continue to fall across northern New Mexico and into southern Colorado.  The highest peaks of the Northern Mountains could get 8-12″ of snow with most areas getting 4-8″   The San Juans of northern New Mexico and southwest Colorado will have the best chance to pick up 12″+ from tonight into Saturday.

Once the storm clears out by Saturday night, dry, northwesterly flow will take control.  This type of flow will usher in colder air for the weekend!
