Chris’ Thursday Afternoon Forecast

Near record warm temperatures today before wind, cold and snow return to New Mexico.  High temperatures will be 10°-20° warmer than normal for this time of the year with some areas in central and western New Mexico getting close to record high temperatures.

After today, dangerous winds crank up on Friday with the strongest winds in eastern New Mexico.   That is where wind gusts could be as high as 70 mph!  Albuquerque and western New Mexico will have wind gusts up to 50 mph on Friday afternoon. Temperatures ahead of the storm system responsible for the high wind on Friday will still be on the warm side for central and western New Mexico!

Heavy mountain snow begins Friday night into Saturday.  The highest elevations of the Northern Mtns. could see a foot more of snow with the San Juans of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado picking up the most snow.   Behind the storm system, temperatures fall back to more seasonable highs and morning low temperatures.
