ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Members of the Kirtland Fire Department are helping spread holiday cheer to families in need.

Kirtland teamed up with the Albuquerque East Central Community Center to sponsor the 38th annual Operation Holiday Cheer. The base has been hosting this event annually since 1978.

Wednesday hundreds of families were treated to a holiday meal and gifts, with a special appearance by Santa Clause.

“It’s our opportunity to be a part of our community and give back to our community. There are so many different aspects that happen within this,” said Anna Duran, UNM Children’s Hospital.

More than 1,500 toys were given to families at Wednesday’s event.
