Christmas on the Pecos celebrates 25th anniversary

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE)- It’s one of New Mexico’s biggest and brightest holiday attractions.

It’s that time of year again, Christmas on the Pecos is in full swing and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce say it’s better than ever.

“We try and up the game every year, we have different things that we try and do, we add new lighting, new displays,” said Lisa Boeke, with the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.

Around 100 families have decorated their homes along the Pecos River.

Visitors take in the sights from boats that run from Thanksgiving weekend until the new year.

“This is our 25th season which is which is huge for a really small community,” said Boeke.

Connie and Jere Reid have been decorating their home for all 25 years.

“Everybody gets to do their own thing. If they want to do a lot the do a lot ,if they don’t want to they don’t have to,” said Connie.

Connie says they don’t do as much as decorating as they used to, but they still put something up every year.

This year the decorations that the Reids have out are made from displays her parents used many years ago.

They say that they love the time of year when the Pecos River becomes a river of lights.

“It’s brought a lot of people around Christmas time and it kind of gets them in the Christmas mood, going down the river and seeing the lights,” said Jere.

Organizers for Christmas on the Pecos say it’s a yearlong process to put it all together.

The money it makes goes toward next year’s edition. People can purchase tickets here.
