Amusement park cancels Cliff’s Magical Christmas this year

Cliff’s Magical Christmas

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The new tradition only lasted a few years; Cliff’s Magical Christmas is no longer an option for families this holiday season and people are disappointed.

Cliff’s amusement park decided to cancel its annual Christmas at Cliff’s event. It started the event back in 2013. It quickly became a holiday tradition for some but now it has many wondering what happened.

“I liked to see the Christmas lights that go up, it makes the highway really pretty in the dark,” Kaylen Jones said.

But this year the trees won’t light up, there will be no spiral of lights, the rides won’t run; in fact, gates at the park are even locked.

For the last three years as soon as the summer season ended, the amusement park transformed into Cliff’s Magical Christmas. The park would open shortly after Thanksgiving.

The first year Cliff’s owner told KRQE News 13 he wanted this to be the first of many years the amusement park could be open during the holiday season. Three years later and it’s a no-go.

“I’ve actually never been to it during Christmas and I was planning on going this year,” Rosa Pina said.

Each year Cliff’s hired a landscaping company to set up the millions of lights around the park. Now that company is out of one of its biggest gigs.

Cliff’s said the time it took to set up and tear down took away from maintenance and construction. They also told KRQE News 13 that weather in Albuquerque is just too “unpredictable.”

But just as it started to become a new Christmas tradition, families will have to find another.

“Sort of sucks for the families that make a tradition out of it,” Jarod Charles said. “I know a lot of people who usually go and now they don’t get to.”

Cliff’s said it should be open as usual come April.
