ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police could release the names of the children and the mother involved in a tragic murder-suicide that’s rocked a community. This, as the mother continues to fight for her life.

The Albuquerque Police Department said they were waiting to release the names of the woman and children until all family members were been notified. Wednesday night, they said they’ve been in contact with the father of the children and plan to release those names Thursday.

KRQE News 13 has also learned that the 36-year-old mother of the children is in critical but stable condition. Police say she did wake up but has been in and out of consciousness.

Community members continue to drop off stuffed animals, flowers and other items at the scene of the attack in Four Hills. Most didn’t know this family but the entire community is mourning the loss of the three children ages 5, 6 and 9.

Residents were shocked by the tragedy. The city is organizing an event to help the city mourn and to honor children that have been lost in Albuquerque.

Police continue to ask the media not to release the names of the victims at the request of their family.

Police said in part, “The family has asked the Department not to release the identities of the three children who were murdered as of yet. We must remember we are only 48 hours into this tragic investigation.”

According to records, 45-year-old Daniel Wechsler pleaded guilty to stalking and assault back in 2003. That case involved another ex-girlfriend. The police report says, Wechsler was found parked across the street from what use to be the AOL on Jefferson and Osuna where she worked. Wechsler was found with a gun, binoculars and a camcorder and the woman told police Wechsler had been stalking since she broke up with him.

Police say he sent her a threatening email saying he wanted her to die. Police pulled him over nearby and arrested him.

Wechsler later pleaded guilty to stalking and assault and was sentenced to a year and a half of probation.

Wechsler was also arrested last year for aggravated battery against his own brother at the Manzano Mesa Community Center during a volleyball game.

His brother says Wechsler quote, “is extremely competitive and has a habit of bullying others”. He says he nearly knocked out two of his teeth.
