Lobos saved by Brown against UTEP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- For the first time in five years the University of New Mexico and UTEP Miners shared a basketball court. The two rivals delivered a thriller. The Lobos defeated the Miners 78-77 after nearly blowing a 21 point lead. Guard Elijah Brown led the Lobos in scoring with 25 points. The Lobos lead the game most of the way but, a hot shooting Deon Barrett would make a difference for the Miners.

Barrett would score 25 points all in the second half. He helped deliver the lead to the Miners with 27 seconds left in the game. The Miners 77-74 advantage appeared to be safe with a Lobo team that was just struggling to get traction. Lobo guard Jordan Hunter raced down the court to score two of his ten points with only 22 seconds left in the game.

That cut the deficit to two. The Miners missed at the free throw line with ten seconds to go. The Lobos got the rebound and the ball to guard Elijah Brown. Brown buried the last two of his 25 points to put the Lobos up 78-77.

UTEP had five seconds to work with but, could not convert on the other end. The Lobos had three players in double figures. Sam Logwood scored 11 points. With the win the Lobos improved to 6-3 and are at NMSU Saturday. The Miners dropped to 2-5.
