LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Two Las Cruces Police Officers are on administrative leave, as is standard procedure, after a deadly officer involved shooting Friday night.
Police say a possibly suicidal 36-year-old man barricaded himself in a room at the Sleep Inn.
They tried to negotiate with him for several hours starting at around 5 p.m. Friday, but say he wasn’t cooperating.
They say shots rang out around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
Police say the man was hit at least once and died at Memorial Medical Center.
No officers were injured.
The Officer-involved Incident Task Force includes is investigating. It includes detectives from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
