One man dead in officer involved shooting in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Two Las Cruces Police Officers are on administrative leave, as is standard procedure, after a deadly officer involved shooting Friday night.

Police say a possibly suicidal 36-year-old man barricaded himself in a room at the Sleep Inn.

They tried to negotiate with him for several hours starting at around 5 p.m. Friday, but say he wasn’t cooperating.

They say shots rang out around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.

Police say the man was hit at least once and died at Memorial Medical Center.

No officers were injured.

The Officer-involved Incident Task Force includes is investigating.
