ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A 75-year-old man is suing a New Mexico county, claiming he’s been mistreated at the local senior center. He says one issue, having his weekly pinochle game disrupted.
Norbert Schueller calls the Belen Senior Center his second home.
“I play pinochle on Mondays and Fridays, there’s a group of us, we’ve been doing this for years,” said Schueller.
But the 75-year-old said lately, he feels like an unwanted guest. He puts the blame on the newest director of the center, Diane Eaton.
“The new director is mistreating the staff and the older Americans like myself,” said Schueller. “And I did not like it.”
Schueller filed a lawsuit against Eaton, accusing her of bullying anyone who disagrees with her and treating the senior center like her, “private Buckingham Palace.”
One example mentioned, disturbing his pinochle game by opening and slamming cabinet doors.
“Which she couldn’t do this quietly,” said Schueller. “She had to make sure we knew that she was present.”
The lawsuit claims she then booted the pinochle players from the room all together so she could store filing cabinets.
“She doesn’t like people who are critical of her management style and one way to get back at me was to interrupt the pinochle game,” said Schueller.
Schueller’s lawsuit also said since Eaton took over, less nutritional meals have been provided at the center.
“The prime goal here is the meals,” said Schueller.
KRQE News 13 reached out to Eaton and the County’s attorney, he told us he could not comment on the lawsuit, but did file a motion to dismiss it.
The County Manager tells KRQE News 13, the accusations are completely false.
