ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque firefighter was honored Wednesday with the distinguished Patriot Award. Deputy Chief Chris Wade is being recognized for what he’s done to help National Guard members in the department. The Patriot Award from the Department of Defense honors those who go above and beyond in helping support guard members as they juggle both jobs.

It includes everything from making sure they have flexible schedules to helping their families when they are away.

Wade was nominated by firefighter and National Guard member Andrew West who says the efforts of people like Wade have made life a lot easier.

The Albuquerque Fire Department has nearly a dozen guard members both active and reserve who deploy throughout the year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
