ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- It was a huge win for a program that has come a long way. Not only did this team win their last game of the season for their 29 seniors on their roster, but they also took home a portion of the Mountain Division Championship with the 56-35 win over Wyoming.
“You know I am just really proud of these guys, really proud of these coaches, again you know the seniors. I think you have to take a minute to look at the bigger picture of it all, and it’s remarkable. To win 8 games, have a chance to win a 9th game, to win a piece of this conference title. That’s pretty good, pretty good”, said Head Coach Bob Davie.
UNM finished 6-2 in conference play which tied them with Wyoming and Boise State in the Mountain Division. This was not just a win on Saturday night, it was a statement, as UNM accumulated 690 total yards with 568 of those yards coming on the ground.
This win also marked the programs 11th conference win over 2 years, which is a program record.
“It was something that was really always on our mind, and I remember actually, my class sitting in the freshman dorms on campus all together just talking about how good it would be to win. So, now that we are actually here we were actually just talking about that, and how big it is to know that we kind of help create this culture of winning. I am just very proud of all the guys that stuck through it all, and especially the good and the bad and just proud to go out here and say we have 8 wins and we can share this Mountain Division championship”, said UNM Sr. Linebacker Dakota Cox.
