Alleged armed felon arrested after being stopped in stolen car

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– A stolen car arrest nearly became much more violent after police say an armed felon nearly pulled his gun on an officer.

According to a criminal complaint, Richard Cardona was stopped in a stolen car near Juan Tabo and Montgomery.

An officer had to pull a gun when Cardona wouldn’t show his hand. Turns out Cardona, a convicted felon, had a loaded gun in his pocket and later told the officer he was going to try and make her shoot him.

Cardona was arrested on a long string of charges and remains behind bars on bond. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
