GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY)– Most of us are planning ahead for Thanksgiving dinner and some of you may have even picked up your turkey already, but for one Green Bay neighborhood, turkey seems to come around more than just for dinner.
It’s said that a dog is a man’s best friend, but for 6-year-old Tennison Dixon hanging out with one of his other friends is turning some heads.
“I just know that Tennison’s turkey is famous around here,” said a neighbor.
Miss Toni is the neighborhood’s pet turkey. She’s been raised by humans ever since she was a baby
“When it got too big they brought it over to the wildlife sanctuary and let it go, but the turkeys over there didn’t want anything to do with it so it left and it showed up in my yard,” said Perry Gardner.
“It really seems to like us. Definitely raised from a hatchling and it definitely bonded on people,” said Jack Dixon.
“She follows me. I will walk around back and from the driveway to the backyard and she will come around,” said MoJo.
Sometimes Miss Toni gets a little too close.
“Typically I see it on top of my car,” said Riley Dixon.
Although it may be unusual to see a turkey hanging out with humans and some dogs the neighbors say they welcome it.
“It’s just a great neighborhood to live in and we are just so blessed to have these kind of creatures come and visit us,” said Jack. “It makes life a lot nicer.
“I just love this neighborhood. It’s a great opportunity to be in the city and not in the city at the same time and have so many cool experiences,” said Riley.
When asked if Tennison was going to have Turkey for Thanksgiving, he said, “yes but from the store.”
