ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman and Boston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart brought their Rake City instructional camp for youth to Rio Rancho Tuesday.
Cool temperatures greeted the campers as they took instruction from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Bregman and Swihart had help from current and former professional baseball players as they thought the fundamentals of batting, throwing and running.
“Hard work is the biggest thing,” said Bregman. “They go to different camps and practice all the time but, if they learn one thing from our camp we will be happy.” Swihart talked about the importance of giving back.
“I know I had people I looked up to when I played when I was younger,” said Swihart. “I hope that Alex and I are doing that too. You know it’s nice to come back to your community and give back.”
Bregman and Swihart plan to bring the one day camp back next year. Wednesday they will be in Lubbock, Texas hosting another Rake City.
