ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is working to keep you and your family safe while out shopping this holiday season.

The department has set up mobile security cameras at malls and shopping centers, and officers will be beefing up patrols. APD also ask shoppers to do their part by keeping your valuables out of sight and parking in well-lit areas.

“We sometimes see an increase in those types of crimes, and so we really want to get out ahead of it and say, ‘Take these extra steps to be really careful and really be conscious of what’s happening around you,” said Lt. Trish Hoffman.

APD also recommends that if you buy something online from someone and you have to meet in person, find a busy area to meet.
