ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- The University of New Mexico senior forward Tim Williams is the Mountain West Player of the Week for the first time ever.
“I mean he’s playing with a guy who led the league in scoring during league play, so I think that has a little bit to do with it,” said Lobos Head Coach Craig Neal. “I thought he had a great week and had a couple of chances to win it, and somebody just played better.”
The All Conference first team returner averaged 25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week. Williams put in his second double double of the season with 31 points and 11 rebounds against Houston Baptist.
He followed that up with a team high 20 points against rival New Mexico State. The Lobos will play Virginia Tech Thursday in their first game of the Wooden Legacy Classic in California. The game will be televised on ESPN at 2:30 p.m.
