ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- The Eldorado Eagles and Rio Grande Ravens tipped off their first game never expecting that they would not finish what they started. That is exactly what happened as a water leak forced postponement of the game right at the start of the second quarter. With the Eagles leading 21-17, game officials noticed water on the floor.
A heavy rain found its way into the building drop by drop apparently coming from either pipes above or the ceiling. Officials held the game up for about ten minutes and when the drops continued to fall they decided to postpone the game for player safety.
“When they put the new court down they did check the roof,” said Eldorado Head Coach Roy Sanchez.
A pipe burst flooded out the Eldorado gym back in April. Eldorado Assistant Coach Yvonne Sanchez remembers it well. That was the former Lobo Women’s Basketball Coach first day helping her Eldorado Head Coach brother Roy.
“Unbelievable first day on the job the gym is flooded,” said Yvonne Sanchez. “I’m looking for Roy and the gym is flooded. First game I guess we get a rain out.”
A makeup date has not yet been determined.
