ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – She may be young, but she’s already accomplished so much, and this Thanksgiving she plans on doing much more for one local organization.
Katie Perkins, only 6-years-old, has raised over $1,100 for the New Mexico Child Advocacy Networks (NMCAN).
NMCAN supports 15 Court Appointed Special Advocate programs across the state and provides direct services to young people as they transition from foster care to adulthood.
The Turkey Trek 5K benefits the NMCAN and it has been doing so for 16 years. The run/walk kicks off the holidays with the fun family event that celebrates healthy living and makes a difference in the lives our community’s children and youth who are in foster care.
NMCAN’s Development and Communications Director, Lorilynn Violanta, Perkins and her mother, Brittany Perkins, joined KRQE’s This Morning team to discuss the event. Watch above.
The run/walk will be held at the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum on Thursday, November 24, Thanksgiving Day, and will begin at 9 a.m. Funds raised will support NMCAN’s mission.
Perkins has raised over $1,400 this year alone.
