President Obama continues foreign trip, to meet with Putin

LIMA, Peru (KRQE) – President Barack Obama is holding separate meetings with the leaders of Australia and Canada before he wraps up the final foreign trip of his presidency.

On Saturday, he tried to ease fears in Latin America that his successor will pull out of American trade deals. He asked Peruvians to give Trump a chance.

“Once they look at how it’s working, I think they’ll realize it’s good for both the United States and our trading partners,” President Obama said.

He said the President-elect will eventually see the benefits of those deals.

President Obama is also eventually expected to meet with Russian President Vladamir Putin. It would be the first meeting between the two since the White House blamed Russia for hacking Democratic Party email servers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
