Video: Thief steals tools from Albuquerque man used for work

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In less than a minute, surveillance video shows an Albuquerque thief smashing a car window, stealing what’s inside.

It’s just after 3:00 a.m. when the thief shows up on camera.

The video shows he walks from the apartment complex across the street to the Echo Ridge Homes near San Pedro and Montgomery where Joshua Rochelle lives.

The thief then scopes out Rochelle’s truck, all while he’s being recorded on Rochelle’s cameras.

But he doesn’t make a move yet. Instead, he walks across the street and gets in a car.

The video show he then drives back over, making an appearance at Rochelle’s again.

This time though, he smashes Rochelle’s back window.

“Within five seconds, he was gone with my tool box,” said Rochelle.

Rochelle said they weren’t just any tools, they helped him do his job.

“We do some pretty big jobs around the state,” said Rochelle. “We do the gymnasiums for APS and we do work for UNM.”

Rochelle helps build basketball courts.

“We do all the emblems and all the painting and all that,” said Rochelle.

From Rio Rancho High School, to the Genoviva Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe, and even The Pit, Rochelle said he helped construct them with the same tools the thief took.

“I know my tools being returned to me probably is a long shot,” said Rochelle.

A long shot, but he said not impossible, thanks to his video.
