Basketball team donates backpacks to patients

LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The Valencia High School Boys basketball team is taking a time out from the court to do something good for the community.

Members of the varsity team collected backpacks filled with school supplies, toys, and other items and then delivered them to the kids at the pediatric unit at Presbyterian Hospital.

“Everybody was pretty excited cause we usually do a food bank but this is a little bigger so everyone was excited to come out here and talk to the children and just really be an influence on some of their lives,” said Jonathon Gonzales.

In all, the team collected 50 backpacks. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
