Dogs found, returned to couple after thieves steal truck

Albuquerque couple pleads for thieves to bring back their dogs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Their white Ford truck was stolen, with their two dogs inside and the Albuquerque couple thought they’d never see them again.

KRQE News 13 first told you about Pete and Sue Hedrick’s plea Tuesday night to get their dogs back from thieves.

Sue said it’s common for her two pups, Peña Blanca and Mocha, to go to work with her husband. Pete works for Budget Blinds. Tuesday, he was working at a home near Unser and Montono. He left the doors to his truck open, with the two dogs in the back seat.

Pete said he was just about 15 feet from the truck when he looked up and saw thieves taking it, dogs and all.

“We were crying and crying and wondering where dogs are were,” Sue said.

Then Wednesday morning, Sue got a call.

“Both dogs are micro-chipped,” she said. “They told us that our dogs had just been turned into a veterinarian hospital less than a mile from our house.”

Someone turned the two dogs into one of the VCA Animal Hospital locations in Albuquerque. The clinic said a good samaritan found Mocha and Peña Blanca wandering in in the Winrock parking lot.

Both dogs were found unharmed.

“I don’t know if maybe they heard the story from the night before and had a change of heart or what, but there they were both of our dogs in perfect condition. They weren’t dirty or hurt in anyway,” Sue said.

The couple said they filed a police report, but their truck has yet to be found.
