SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE)– In Santa Fe, people with extra guns lying around had a chance to transform them.

Saturday law enforcement as well as New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence held a gun buyback where working and non-working guns could be exchanged for gift cards.

Those giving their guns up received $150 for semi-automatic high capacity rifles, $75 for semi-automatic handguns and $50 for long guns and pistols.

The guns purchased weren’t just taken to the landfill though, they’re being turned into gardening tools and given to welding students to turn into art.
