ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – What started as a routine traffic stop, led to the arrest of two wanted women.
But police video shows they didn’t make it easy for officers to find out who they were and what they were hiding.
“Could you roll down all the windows and then turn off the car?” asked the officer in the police video.
It was a simple stop Sunday near Menaul and University for an expired license tag.
“We also saw you not wearing your seat belt when you were driving, too,” said the officer to the driver.
But it didn’t stay that simple.
“Do you have your driver’s license,” asked the officer.
There are four people in the car. Both the driver and front seat passenger don’t have an ID on them.
The driver said her name was Percilla Romero. The passenger also gave a name.
“What’s your name,” asked the officer.
“Geraldine Cordova,” replied the passenger.
But it didn’t take long for Albuquerque Police officers to realize something wasn’t right.
“Hey Geraldine, you gave me the wrong birth date,” said the officer. “Could you give me the correct one?”
“You’re staring at me and you’re not responding, it’s just kind of odd,” continued the officer. “I’ve never had that response.”
She then tells the officer she’s wanted for a misdemeanor, still not giving a name.
“She says she’s going away for a long time,” said the officer to another APD officer. “So I don’t, and they’re looking at each other.”
In the meantime, officers found the driver, Romero, had a warrant.
“She’s got a misdemeanor for disorderly,” said the officer.
Finally the passenger gave her real name, Daniella Cordova. Police said she was wanted for a parole violation.
“I probably should’ve told you, I was just like in shock,” said Cordova.
Both Romero and Cordova were arrested.
One of the male passengers in the backseat was also searched.
“What’s this in your pants,” asked the officer.
“That’s my d***,” said the passenger.
According to a police report, it was actually a pipe in his pants. He was ticketed for having drugs.
The final passenger was free to go.
Also found in the car, a BB gun and a real gun that not one of the four wanted to claim.
Police are working to get a search warrant for the car to see who the gun belongs to.
They also found pot, meth, and heroin on Romero and Cordova.
Cordova has a long criminal history.
