In The County: Grow The Growers Program

grow the grower

The average age of a New Mexican farmer is approximately 63 years old, and more than 90 percent of food purchased by New Mexicans is imported from outside the state. Bernalillo County’s ‘Grow the Growers’ program aims to create jobs and business opportunities to support the viability, continuity and sustainability of a locally-based, year-round food production system.

Lisa Powell, Open Space Resource Specialist and Cindy Davies, Bernalillo County Cooperative Extension Program Director, joined New Mexico Living to talk about the grower’s program. It will take place at the Bernalillo County Extension Office, November 21from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
