ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A celebration kicked off Sunday in the South Valley for the 24th Annual Dia de los Muertos Marigold Parade.

Tuesday was Dia de los Muertos and all week the community has been celebrating the holiday in honor of those who have passed.

The parade is presented by La Raza Unida and Cambio, and will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Westside Community Center in southwest Albuquerque. This year’s theme is “Sheep Don’t Vote, Feed the Chupacabra: Reclamando Nuestra Querencia.”

In Old Town Saturday, another event took place with the 12th Annual Santisima’s Dia de los Muertos celebration featuring “Day of the Dead” artwork and family activities. Event-goers took part in a “Day of the Dead” costume contest and face painting. There was also plenty of live music.
