Man accused of severely beating girlfriend with battle axe appears in court

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of nearly killing his girlfriend with a Native American battle axe saw a judge Sunday morning.

According to a criminal complaint, Larry Chiefly used that axe to viciously beat his girlfriend, hitting her in the head with it and breaking both her arms. It was an attack she barely survived.

Investigators say Chiefly kicked that woman’s baby to try and get to her.

Chiefly was arrested and appeared in court Sunday where the judge left his bond at $100,000 cash only. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
