ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A soccer field at an Albuquerque park is bearing a new name Sunday morning in memory of a local soccer star.

A gathering at Ventana Ranch Community Park honored former University of New Mexico soccer player Patrick Grange.

Doctors diagnosed him with ALS and he passed away in 2012. Tests later linked his death to head trauma.

His parents say they hope this park will help raise awareness.

Patrick is the first soccer player linked to CTE, a degenerative brain disease linked to traumatic brain injury.
