Trump supporters say vandals won’t quit targeting their home

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Northeast Heights family says someone — or someones — who don’t agree with their support of Donald Trump for president won’t leave their home alone.

Phylis and Russell Thorson are proud Trump-Pence supporters. It’s easy to see that, given all the signs in their yard.

But recently, they say, someone who disagrees with their candidate choice has gone to great lengths to make it known.

First, Phylis says, their Trump signs were stolen from their yard on Estrellita del Norte Road. So, she put up her own sign calling out the thief.

“And then dog poop started showing up in little pink bags, blue bags,” she said. “They’d put it by our Trump sign.”

Again, Phylis made her own sign condemning the poop. The passive aggressive punches kept coming, though.

“The other night, when we woke up the next morning our flag pole was cut down,” she said. “Someone got their hacksaw and cut our flag pole.”

A ‘Make America Great Again!’ flag was flying just underneath their American flag. Whoever did it left the American flag laying the ground.

Finally, someone printed copy of the City of Albuquerque’s sign ordinance, highlighting where it says, “Special political signs shall be permitted up to a total area of six square feet in each residential zone” — alluding that the Thorsons have too many.

“But after the note, then we put up some more,” she said.

Thorson says while she gets it — not everyone likes the guy — this isn’t the way to make it known.

“I’m not going to bother you, you shouldn’t destroy my property,” she said. “Make your voice heard on the polls. That’s it. Go vote.”

Thorson has asked her neighbors on Estrellita del Norte if they have surveillance cameras that might have captured the person behind the flag pole mess. No word on any video, so far.

There’s been several stories of political signs being stolen this election season, with some people going to great lengths to keep vandals away like using electrical fencing to shock sign thieves. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
