Thieves take from an organization which helps those in need

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An organization that helps others needs help themselves after getting targeted by thieves.

Burglars keep breaking into vehicles belonging to the Red Cross.

It first happened a couple of years ago at their Paseo Del Norte and Pan American location. It happened again a month ago, and again Thursday. Windows were smashed and one of their disaster relief trucks was put on cinder blocks while the thieves made off with the wheels.

“I think it’s criminals getting desperate. I see it on social media all the time. Different businesses, they’ve been targeted–vehicles thefts, wheels from trucks–so maybe this just looked like an easy getaway,” said Brandon Barela, of the Red Cross.

The suspects also took gas cards and rummaged through a first aid kit.

The non-profit says it will cost hundreds of dollars to repair the damage. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
