Dia De Los Muertos celebration to kick off in Old Town

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Tuesday was Dia de los Muertos. This weekend, another celebration will take place in Old Town.

The 12th Annual Santisima’s Dia de los Muertos celebration will take place on Saturday. It’s to show off “Day of the Dead” art work.

Traditional alters are also set up for the celebration.

The owner of Santisima art gallery says it’s also a time to honor and celebrate those who have passed.

“It’s a celebration of their life, and for a lot of people that’s important, and it’s also very healing because on that day you really feel their presence around you and they don’t want us sad they want us happy,” said Johnny Salas, owner.

There will be a “Day of the Dead” costume contest, face painting and if the weather holds up — entertainment with ballet folk lorico and mariachis.

It’s in old town Saturday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
